Hi friend,
We hope you're well! It feels like Autumn suddenly crept up on us and now it's here to stay. Goodbye warm summer days, hello crisp air and colourful leaves. Love letter #10 looks back at what we've been up to, some finds from the www and gives you a short introduction to Speculative Design and how to get started with it. Bon voyage!

Creativity is proving hard to achieve remotely. Yet innovating at times of crisis reaps the biggest reward. So how do we create collaborative breakthroughs whilst sat at home? And how can organisations across the globe harness innovation to succeed? Together with The Remote Lab, Joe Coppard held a session on why you have to prioritise creativity in order to thrive remotely. Need an injection of inspiration? We're happy to help! Reach out to us for a chat and a cup of coffee.
02 What is Speculative Design?
Speculative design is a method for organizations to look up and disconnect from today's uncertain situation. It's a way to start speculating in bold visions of the future and look at how these may affect the outside world and your business.

Five things to keep in mind to get started with speculative design.

1 Be brave. Success usually comes when you let your team go outside their comfort zone and look up.

2 Act now. We are in the middle of a pandemic where much of our lives have been turned upside down. Now is a good time to try to understand how future global crises will affect your business.

3 Find a partner. Working with a team of experts who take you through the process and navigate right through difficult issues is the key to success.

4 Think strategically. Involve key people in your organization — those who are crucial to the current understanding and to imagining the future of your company.

5 Plan long-term. It's not about fast storytelling but rather business-critical research and development of the most important issues your business is facing. Harnessing the power of speculative design may well be our main tool for turning an existential crisis into a crucial opportunity.

"Consumer expectations are high, but speed is critical too. Effective prototyping improves both the quality of the outcome and the efficiency of the process, so that market-leading ideas can be developed, refined and approved more quickly – and at lower risk."
