Driving Collaborative Decarbonisation: The Net Zero Co Lab powered by DFDS
How we’re helping DFDS to address decarbonisation challenges through innovation and collaboration.
Danish logistics giant DFDS is not just responsible for approximately 5% of Denmark’s carbon emissions but also accounts for a large part of their customers’ scope 3 emissions. In order to keep up with changing market expectations and compliance requirements, DFDS trusted Another Tomorrow to help them both understand their customer’s new reality as well as identify and develop new solutions to stay competitive. Another Tomorrow’s human-centric approach and capabilities to leverage new technologies has helped DFDS develop new products and services in line with the green economy.
With that in mind, we established the Net Zero Co Lab, a cross-industry platform to collaborate on decarbonising transportation and logistics. Convened by DFDS and Another Tomorrow, twice a year the Co Lab brings together a diverse breadth of DFDS’ key customers representing all industries ranging from raw materials to consumer goods to tackle the challenges of decarbonising the complex, and multi-stakeholder, shipping sector.
Our approach
We design each Co Lab to address the current political, environmental and economic challenges affecting the industry. The most recent gatherings focused on critical issues like data transparency, business model evolution, and regulatory oversight within the decarbonisation of logistics.
For every Co Lab, we create a structured process based on our expertise within Design Thinking and cross-industry collaboration. Following the double diamond approach, the sessions usually consist of a mix of discovery, ideation, discussion and prioritisation of ideas to move forward with. The outcome of the process is a number of solutions to be evaluated for prototyping and further development.
As the on-site facilitator, Another Tomorrow plays a key role in guiding discussions, leveraging participant’s strengths, leading the group through the structured activities and ensuring productive collaboration.
Between workshops, we compile insights and drive further development, ensuring that the momentum from each gathering continues to build toward tangible solutions.
The prototypes
Between the last two co labs, Another Tomorrow further advanced and prototyped a dashboard that provides DFDS’ customers with a clear picture of their transport decarbonisation goals, and to benchmark themselves against other groups. The tool will enable more informed discussions and ensure they speak the same “language”.
On top of that, the teams - consisting of DFDS representatives and two customers - went through a rapid process of creating a shared commitment around eTruck charging infrastructure. What started as a role play turned into serious conversations with the aim to run a prototyping project together with DFDS and at least two of their customers. More on that in 2025.
High ambitions
Decarbonising the shipping industry is too big for any one player to tackle alone. DFDS is stepping up with bold action, holding both themselves and their customers accountable for cutting their immense carbon emissions. The Net Zero Co Lab creates a transparent space for building trust and fostering dynamic, collaborative solutions for a cleaner future.
